In 2017 the accident after basketball training changed Federico's life. When he arrived to the hospital, he immediately highlighted a high-energy trauma, where it was possible not only the bone areas but were involved. The fundamental critical issue was to reduce the hip fracture which was associated with a fracture of the femoral head. Federico was used to playing many sports, running and living an active life. Immediately after the accident he continued to feel pain and went through a profound crisis.

The fracture of the head of the bone represented a serious problem especially for a young boy, so the risk of losing it meant being subjected to a total hip prosthesis at a young age. Thinking of putting a hip prosthesis on such a young patient would have represented a frustration for the doctor. After having performed the CT scan, a pre-operative MRI and having realized what the lesion balance of the head was, the choice was a biomimetic tri-layer scaffold that induced the growth of the cartilage at the level of the most superficial layer, while at the level of the deeper layer, with the presence of hydroxyapatite, it was able to integrate at the bone level, compensating for these osteochondral lesions and preserving the head for as long as possible.

The protocol did not present any standards, so it was decided to subject her to a period of unloading, with immediate mobilization of the joint. The goal for Federico was to heal in the shortest time possible and he did everything to get back to having the muscles he had before. After the first four months he was already able to run. Subsequent checks showed no pain and excellent mobility. The MRIs and x-rays in the following months amazed the doctors. Basically Federico resumed a normal life and was very satisfied with the result, while the doctors were amazed by his situation, not imagining such a quick and complete recovery.
