Tendinopathies
The tendons that stabilize the ankle can become inflamed (tendinitis) or chronically degenerate (tendinosis). The most common tendinopathies involve the Achilles tendon and the peroneal tendons and are caused by functional overload, repeated microtraumas or mechanical imbalances.
Causes
Ankle tendinopathies are caused by functional overload, repeated microtraumas, or mechanical imbalances. The tendons most frequently affected are the Achilles tendon and the peroneal tendons.
Symptoms
Symptoms include pain and swelling along the tendon, worsening pain during or after physical activity, and difficulty moving.
Diagnosi e Trattamenti
Diagnosis is based on clinical evaluation of symptoms and can be confirmed through ultrasound or MRI to rule out other conditions. Treatment mainly includes conservative measures such as rest, physical therapy, the use of orthotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and physical therapy. In more severe cases, tendon repair surgery may be required.
Problematiche e Complicazioni
If left untreated, tendinopathy can lead to chronic tendon degeneration, limiting tendon functionality and increasing the risk of rupture.
