We would like to inform you about Long-term Results after Osteochondral Scaffold Implantation.
The paper titled Cell-Free Biomimetic Osteochondral Scaffold for the Treatment of Knee Lesions (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34283948/) is aimed to evaluate the clinical outcome and Imaging Results at 10-Year Follow-up
The article reports that “a statistically significant improvement of all clinical scores was documented from the baseline to the final evaluation”. As shown in Figure 1 below, the IKDC subjective score showed a significant improvement from the preoperative level to 2-year follow-up, with stable results over time both at 5-year and 10-year follow up.
The IKDC objective score showed a statistically significant improvement at all follow-up times (2, 5, and 10 years) compared with the baseline level, and stable results over time.
The authors acknowledge that “clinical improvement was significant and stable over time both in terms of subjective and objective outcomes, including activity level, with overall good results”.
The total MOCART score showed a statistically significant improvement from 2-year to 5-year follow-up, with a non significant decrease at the final evaluation.
Further analysis aimed at correlating clinical and MRI findings: the MOCART and subchondral bone variables did not correlate with the clinical outcome.
Figure 1 : The International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective score showed a significant improvement from the preoperative level to the 2-year follow-up, then the results remained stable during the 10-year evaluation.
