We are glad to announce a strategic agreement with Socime II – Produtos Médicos, Lda for the distribution of CustomBone Service in Portugal.
Finceramica and Socime II – Produtos Médicos sign the agreement for the distribution of CustomBone Service in Portugal.
CustomBone Service (CBS) is a patient-specific cranial implant made of hydroxyapatite (HA), a CaP-derivative with chemical features and a 3D porous structure which resembles the mineral component of human bone.
Compared to other alloplastic alternatives on the market (i.e. PMMA, PEEK, Titanium), these peculiar properties make CBS a good candidate for replacing cranial bone defect in a physiological manner.
The HA macro, interconnected and micropores sustain the formation of a biochemical continuity with the host bone tissue [1], which play a role in new bone ingrowth and bone regeneration, making the material suitable for cells housing.
Thanks to the high porosity, the device can also be loaded with antibiotics in the intra-operative phase. For the same concept, some cases have been published where in case of post-op infections, the device can be treated with antibiotics locally, in order to avoid the plate removal [2,3].
The device is indicated both in adult and paediatric patients (for children 2 years and above of age in EMEA and 7 years and above in US).
