Finceramica celebrates its first 30 years of operation, 25 of which as a member of the Tampieri family of companies.
I remember working in an interdisciplinary group, where each of us had the transversal competencies needed to take forward different projects involving bioceramic materials. We had plenty of ideas and tried to develop each of them with a view of the future in mind. Had we taken even just half a day off work due to slackness or lack of motivation, today we wouldn't have many products which are essential not only to Finceramica, but to the health of patients. But this couldn't happen, since enthusiasm was the driving force behind everything. Then, as years went by and we grew, we had to make choices, related especially to cost/benefit analyses, necessary for the development of the company.
We never felt as if the company belonged to us just because we owned a little bit of it. We felt that it belonged to us in that the materials and the products, which of course would evolve, stemmed from our own ideas. Even the decision of quitting our previous jobs, whether in research or surgery, depended on an ideal, a project, not a mere investment. Rather, let's say it wasn’t so much an economic investment, as an investment of the heart. And a challenge.
To realise that, although we weren’t managers and didn’t follow corporate strategies, our ideas, rising from the bottom, could become reality. And it’s just as satisfying, if not more so, to see your work from a different angle and realise that there are people who got better thanks to you too: this is truly a great satisfaction!
True. I was in the operating theatre for a spinal surgery and the surgeon told me: "Mr Nataloni, everybody is able to make cubes one by one. Try and make me a head!" And that got us thinking that, since the material had similar characteristics to the bone, we could try and work on the realisation of a 3D piece. It all started there.
Finceramica has a special nature, which is about accurate production based on actual clinical data. The secret is that we have been able to maintain our local and national identity, which ensures that, in spite of our small size, our products are "distributed by" and not "owned by". And this was possible thanks to the Tampieri family, who identified this special trait and still allows us to continue to be ourselves.
